Wellspring's Twice is Nice - Whitecourt, Alberta

This is my second review of Twice is Nice—the first was with my cat’s email (Luna). I’m not sure how to update that review and otherwise would like to keep the positive points while amending with more information.

Full disclosure: I did apply for a job and was not hired. I mention this, because I don’t want the perception of this review to be one of retaliation or pettiness.

It is true that Twice is Nice offers incredible opportunities for individuals to afford quality items at significantly lower prices. It is true that many of the staff are very friendly.

However, I’ve had several concerns about the store since I began shopping there in April 2024. I’m a regular customer; I spend both a considerable amount of time in the store as well as money. I support Wellspring’s mandate and Twice is Nice is a way for me to take a break and process whatever it is that I’m working on/or needs attention at that time. As such, I prefer to disengage while shopping; I am thinking.

Unfortunately, being so detached has created awkward interactions. My habits are often commented on and there remains a strong disconnect between myself and staff, not helped by the following: I’ve had my marriage commented on, been upsold, was once charged $5 for a $0.50 mug, had it suggested that I was shoplifting, had my shopping habits commented on, been asked if I was unwell because I only spent $2; received odd remarks about mental health; and general “weird” behaviour that doesn’t promote positive exchanges. I continue to shop there, because there are few alternatives for buying household goods and apparel in Whitecourt.

There are often periods with little on the shelves, Dollar Store Items that are priced near what they would normally be, higher end items (of which there are frequently many) inconsistently priced, and I have witnessed interactions between staff and other customers that border on discrimination. Again, not always the case and I do not believe it is the intention of staff.

Supporting agencies like Wellspring is important to me—a major factor in why I solely focused on the positive in my first review. I wish there was any information within the store or easily accessible to detail where exactly that money is going towards—more than fairly generic answers. And while there remains many reasons to buy from Twice is Nice, I have continued to reduce my time and purchases there as a result.

I cannot say enough good things about Twice is Nice. The staff is amazing—very personable, accommodating, and genuinely friendly. The store is clean, uncluttered, and well organized. There is an excellent selection of items from Walmart brands to luxury goods. The pricing for all items is below nearly every other thrift store I’ve ever been to. I was able to furnish my home and replace the wardrobes (shirts, pants, bras, socks, pjs, formal wear, shoes, etc) for my self and four of my loved ones for hardly anything.

There is a loyalty card: 50% off on the 11th visit where you’ve purchased anything; double stamps if you bring your own bag. There’s bag sale day: twice a month you can fill a provided 25l bag with clothes for $10. There are auctions and many other events throughout the year. However, the absolute greatest quality about Twice is Nice is that the profits go to the Wellspring Women’s Shelter.

If you get the chance, Twice is Nice is a must-go-to shop in Whitecourt.

Like the store so much I am there every other day and that's where I get most of my lil girls stuff since kids grow out of them so fast it makes the most sense with the price of things these days and the prices are always awesome in this great Lil store thank you twice is nice you are the best and the staff is great to again thank you for a great store

Only leaving 1 star because I can’t leave 0. Don’t shop here don’t donate here. My dad dropped something off without consulting my mom, my mom called and explained the situation. They said they would call back when they found the bag, they didn’t. We found our stuff on the racks.
