This was the worst healthcare experience I’ve ever had.

I arrived early for my appointment with Dr. Genevieve Crush out of respect for her time. But she didn’t show up, even after I waited for over an hour. No one at the clinic gave me an explanation or offered an apology. I was left sitting while staff ignored my presence completely.

I was unwell, anxious, and vulnerable. And instead of receiving care, I was treated with total indifference. When I asked about rescheduling, I was coldly told that maybe I could get another appointment in a month, even though I clearly explained that I needed an urgent prescription renewal.

This level of neglect is unacceptable.

To make things worse, I was so stressed and emotionally overwhelmed by the experience that I forgot to renew my parking and received a $40 ticket. I left the building in tears. The entire walk home I felt dismissed, invisible, and punished for simply trying to get medical help.

What hurts the most is the double standard: months ago I was 10 minutes late to an appointment and got charged $30. But now, when Dr. Crush is over an hour late, nobody says a word.

This was not just unprofessional, it was deeply upsetting and traumatic. If this is how Health Services at the University of Waterloo treats students, especially those struggling with mental health, then something is seriously wrong with the system.

I would give a zero star review if I could. I called Monday asking to get a prescription renewed and explicitly stated that I could not come in for an in-person appointment as I am off for the summer and am at home. The receptionist told me that it was no problem and set me up for a phone call appointment with the doctor. The day of the phone call appointment, I waited 30 mins after the decided time but still no call. I called health services again to see what the delay was. This receptionist sounded the same as the initial receptionist, and she told me that the doctor will call me soon. Except I waited an additional 1 hr making the total wait time 1.5 hours. I called health services again and this time it is a different receptionist. She tells me that it was marked down as an in-person appointment and wasn’t even confirmed by the provider She also explained to me that it wouldn’t have been possible for a phone call appt anyways since it would be a new provider. I asked her if I would need to pay a no-show fee and she said maybe but hopf she can get that waived for me. The last receptionist was awesome and super helpful, but the first receptionist didn’t do a single thing right. At the end I have no appointment, wasted 1.5 hrs, no prescription, a possible fee, and now I’m left scrambling for another doctor.

Last year (2024) I went to health services concerned about persisting concussion symptoms and my mental health. I was booked to see dr. Perry an older lady who was the most inconsiderate doctor I’ve ever encountered. When giving her my history she patronized me about how lengthy it was saying "seriously that too?" Judgementally. She completely ignored my third time concussion concerns even though I was vomiting almost daily with already prescribed vertigo and memory loss. She said i should get a massage because it’s probably tension in my shoulders, my shoulders felt fine. She also did nothing about my mental health concerns which I ended up in the hospital for shortly after. She basically rushed the appointment and told me nothing was wrong and made me feel stupid and embarrassed for my mental health history. I went home sobbing and have only built up the courage to write a review ONE YEAR LATER. Horrible. First time I’ve ever felt shamed for having a disability/condition. I was mortified. I now meet with doctor Wallis who has been incredibly helpful and supportive

called them regarding possible concussion symptoms from hockey, the old hag on the phone told me essentially shrugged off my symptoms. I told her that it was serious and stated my symptoms and she said she couldn't get me In today and was incredibly short and disrespectful. Terrible, terrible, terrible service and professional conduct at this location. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, they are so unprofessional.

Staffs are rude and talk like bosses. Doctors are various between awful and extremely good. I had a great experience with Dr. Benedet and bad experience with Dr. Ranawira. The blood work and lab is a great place with nice and friendly staffs.

I don’t understand why this place has unfair ratings. I’ve had the best experiences with Health Care Services. The front desk is always very patient and caring. The doctors are friendly and understanding.

UW Health services is honestly really good, i dont think its as bad as what everyone says it claims to be, all the staff are so kind and helpful, sure it gets busy but you always get seen and physicians are always accommodating!
