Quoi dire. Je suis transporteur routier et j'ai eu des problèmes pendant la nuit de wawa a Thunderbay, nausées, fortes douleurs abdominales bref difficile de conduire mon camion.
Pas eu le choix que de décrocher ma remorque et aller à l'hôpital.
Accueil parfait malgré mon anglais approximatif, il m'on pris en charge tous de suite, analyses, scanner bref tout ça pour apprendre de mauvaises nouvelles qui les ont obligé a me garder pour la semaine.
Personnel efficace rien à redire et je les remercie.
Donc vacances forcées avant mon retour au Québec.

Omgosh. I went to Emerg because I injured 2 of my fingers. I thought I had just sprained them and didn't go in because it is usually so bad in there. Not today. They have streamlined a lot of things, and I was in there, got Xrays, and was seen by the doctor who referred me to a hand specialist and had my fingers splinted all under 1 hour. Thank you so much.

The doctors and nurses are generally extremely kind and helpful but overworked. You never want to have to stay there, though, because your first 3-4 days will be spent on a stretcher tucked away in a cubby, hallway, or a room that has now been designated as unused space The food is flown in, reheated, and disgusting. I've had bad hospital food before, but this isn't fit to be served anywhere, let alone be served to people that are trying to heal wounds or diseases. It's also a very dirty place.

Some smart people decided to close and tear down or repurpose 3 full service hospitals and a long term rehabilitation hospital and build 1 hospital that services a very large area of Northwestern Ontario but is way way too small.

Some of the staff are great, but it's a very dirty, noisy, horrible place to have to spend 1- 4 or 5 nights trying to sleep on a stretcher while waiting for a bed.

I've had some positive experiences but the bad are really bad. I had pneumonia and was very sick, but I had fallen down a flight of stairs. My arm was bruised so they xrayed it. Nothing broken just badly bruised. I was unconscious at times and not really aware of what was going on. The paramedic tried to make me stand up by my arm so he could put me on a chair and get me out to the ambulance. I screamed because it hurt and i couldn't stand. My daughter had to help because the chick paramedic just stood at the top of the stairs and did nothing.  I was crying out in pain but that's about all I remember until he stood me up again outside in the driveway, it was very cold, I was in a lot of pain and then my next memory is hazier and I know now I was in emerg. That was Sunday - I started to be more aware Tuesday. Long story short my back and head were not xrayed. I had a concussion and 2 broken vertebrae that were not diagnosed during my stay. I had 1 very awful nurse in the ER. She mistreated me because I couldn't use the bedpan because I originally couldn't feel that I had to go and couldn't control it and was incontinent until Tuesday when I started to become more aware. I remember the pain as I tried to pull myself up to a semi sitting position and she stood there just watching me. She never assisted me at any point. I was not kind to her and the next time my meds came she had opened the capsules and mixed it with applesauce.  I was still very weak but told her I don't like applesauce and I have no problem swallowing pills. She said well I already have it here so you'll have to.  As I was saying no etc., she scooped the spoon of it in my mouth. I vomited. She walked out as she mumbled "and that's how you get treated when you try to help someone ". I had to call for assistance with my call bell because I was vomiting over the side of my stretcher on to the floor. She came back in and I said I need a K basin for christs sake.  She went and grabbed 4 or 5 and threw them by my feet. I was in an isolation curtained off area close to an exit that everyone goes to have a cigarette.  People peeked in my curtains. They were loud night and day.

I got a room Thursday morning between 3 and 4 am. Remember I had 2 broken vertebrae and had only gotten up once Wednesday night to use a commode. They didn't understand why I hadn't been up and walking once I got to my room and was getting breakfast.  My nurse tried to quickly get me into a sitting position on the side of my bed. She moved me too fast and I cried out in pain. She left me alone and let me start to move myself. Friday was the 4th and last time I threatened to sign myself out because I was not getting my regular medications, I didn't believe I was getting proper treatment, my pain was not being managed and I knew

I have always received good care. However, Last year I was concerned with pain management after a surgery and except for one nurse who was willing to hear me, I had to experience pain on their terms. I hope the good nurse wasn't punished for making my experience easier to bear while I followed the recommendations to get up walking, using the bathroom, etc. Patient advocate came to see me but I was worn out to talk about it.
I hope there is something that leads to a distinction between drug seeking and pain relief seeking and recognition that everyone can't be treated like one size fits all. I only needed the modification for pain for that first couple of days following surgery. On recovering at home, I used medication for the minimum time needed.

There is only one food place in the hospital other than the cafeteria- I imagine that for people visiting over a long period of time this might be a challenge.
Staff I interacted with were helpful and professional.

To give a loved one's belongings in a green garbage is bag is WRONG on multiple levels! Health care has become a blight on our society. The way that our loved one was treated while in the hospital for 5 weeks is abhorrent!

This hospital's emergency room is more of a band-aid clinic. There are some extraordinary Doctors here I have a lot of respect for, but unfortunately, more often than not, the Er Doctors do not listen, nor do they care of what you have to say. Heaven fore bid you have a complex issue because they absolutely not take care of multiple concerns you will actually have to go back through triage again. Also, if you actually need to see a doctor in under 6-8 hours, it might be best to show up in an ambulance. My L5,S1 was actually broken, causing my right leg to be numb and could not weight bare I waited 8 hours. When I finally saw a Dr. They called in a specialist for emergency surgery as there were floating fragments that could have severed my spinal cord.
I have had quite a few issues with this hospital. Although diagnostic imaging has always been friendly & do their best to help you feel comfortable.
