To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to speak out about a deeply traumatic experience I endured at the Cold Lake Women's Shelter, formerly known as the Margaret Savage Society. After spending just one night there, I woke up to find my 4-month-old baby had tragically passed away due to the lack of a crib to practice safe sleeping. This heartbreaking loss has left an indelible mark on my life, and I feel compelled to share my story to advocate for change.

It is unacceptable that a shelter designed to provide safety and support for vulnerable families failed to ensure basic safety measures for infants. The absence of cribs and proper sleeping arrangements not only jeopardizes the well-being of children but also places an immense emotional burden on families seeking refuge. Since my loss, the shelter has changed its name and expanded its capacity, yet there has been no acknowledgment or apology for the tragedy that occurred under their care. This raises serious concerns about the safety of future families who may find themselves in similar situations.

I urge the shelter and relevant authorities to prioritize the implementation of safety measures and provide education on safe sleeping practices. It is crucial to prevent such tragedies from happening again. Families seeking shelter deserve resources, support, and the assurance that their children will be safe. Knowledge and prevention are essential, and I hope that by sharing my experience, we can work together to create a safer environment for all families in need.

Thank you for considering my plea for change.

Sincerely,
Alexanderia Bannab
