Food is always either expired or unfortunately moldy when you receive it or moldy by the next day. I think it's awful that the ones that can't afford fresh food has to settle with food that's gone bad or just on the brink of going bad. The celery they were offering was liquid and so bendy it folded right in half when you pick it up 🤮. I went to make my daughter one of the bagels we got the day before and counted over 15 mold spurs. I'm so glad I noticed before making my 2 year old sick! Things need to change! With all the community donations where is all the good food going cause it's not to people that need it.

I feel compelled to write this after CBC radio aired a segment this morning. It is extremely disappointing that Al Martins, food bank administrator thinks he knows better than Feed Ontario and will not eliminate a means test for food bank usage.. By focusing his efforts on the 5% that may take advantage of the system, he is eliminating extra support for the 95% that do not. His explanations were weak and not show an empathetic and impartial understanding of the issues facing those with economic challenges.

Most of the staff were nice some were a little judgemental on a single mom with children who have eating disorders and would not allow the single mom to pick what they would eat instead of wasting resources. Single mom was not asking for more than what was being allowed
Just for what she knew the kids would eat. Was being rushed thru and not allowed to pick up to the points she had.

AL MARTEN is a failure as a food bank administrator. You fail the dignity test. Literally less then 1% would rather go to a food bank to save 200$.

"Means testing, he said, reassures donors that their dollars — and the food donated by local grocery stores and farms — are helping those in direst need. To Marten, food banks that serve anyone who turns up — no questions asked — fail the accountability test.

Take responsibility that your own failure in securing donations and increased demand due to skyrocketing food prices that is resulting in even the federal government giving out credits, is causing you to police your patrons and decrease their dignity resulting in the ones who need it finding other means to secure food. You clearly lack any education in shock poverty or food insecurity and have no business being in charge of a food bank.

You also fail in best practices for opening hours. Best practice is being open an evening, a daytime, and a weekend slot. This secures that people in need can go there.

The owner is weirdly discriminatory if you happen to be well enough off to have a cell phone. (which you need for.. Employment..?)

You're also heavily judged if you're in need yet are still employed.

Al Martens is heartless.
