Location is not great but understandable. All staff are kind and respectful. Exiting the building is confusing. Made me feel a little like being in a prison (imagining only-not reality) with pathways of tall fencing and locked doors from the outside. The pathway did lead to the parking lot. I would imagine the fencing is to keep trouble out vs to keep me in!

I met a homeless individual as I was walking past the corner of Sally Ann who asked me if I had a pair of shoes for him.

His bare feet were swollen to the point of them leading to resemble more like a pair of elephant stubs, so with his suggestion I buzzed into the Salvation Army main entrance to request a possible pair of shoes from their lost & found bin.

The receptionist on the other end was courteous and responded with respect, to go far as suggesting a pair of clean socks which were all received by this random homeless individual with great relief.

Thanks for making a positive impact within our community despite the lashback I see here.

We have to understand that it is extremely difficult to always match the desired response by the constant stream of mixed needs of the visible difficulties experienced by it's patrons & other marginalized members of a city it's citizens were once proud of.

I've been there in the past and the staff has always been respectful and helpful answering any questions. The little "mini grocery store" concept is a good idea that they implemented a while ago. It gives you a bit of dignity being able to pick items that can/will be consumed for people with food allergies or illnesses that have dietary restrictions. I think its really disgusting that some of these reviews slander the homeless people hanging around/living outside the building. It's the SALVATION ARMY!! Their entire business is to help those in need! Ridiculous that people go to the food bank, then have the audacity to complain about homeless people outside. As for "expired" food. Canned food lasts months and years past expired date. As long as the tins aren't damaged they are fine..which you can avoid as you literally pick what you want/need. Meats, breads and dairy are frozen in deep freezers right away. The expiration dates mean nothing. People need to learn how to be grateful for getting FREE help. Try not being judgmental of those who bust their butts for barely a livable wage! I have witnessed some VERY rude "customers" that treat the staff and others in the waiting area with such horrible disrespect. It's shameful. If you aren't grateful, then you REALLY don't need the food! Using your manners gets you much further with staff that have to deal with hostile , ungrateful people all dang day every day!
