Rating this place is not straightforward because the experience varies depending on what organization is hosting an event.
When I have been, it has been just right. The Fall Fair is a bustling, if crowded, happy place where lineups for food can be a bit too long, but inside and out are amazing displays of Island achievements. There are rides and contests and sheep dog trials and entertainment.
In summer for the Hospice fundraiser we have the place to ourselves and camp in the field. We use the showers the bathrooms the storage space for all our bikes, the stage for a presentation and sometimes for a band. The kitchen must be all right because we are well fed by volunteers and we sit at a few picnic tables in an old orchard. If it rained, it wouldn't be as great but so far we have been fortunate.

Was here for Cycle of Life Tour again (4th year in a row). Absolutely gorgeous outdoor space, clean showers and restrooms and great people. Can't wait till next year.

The feature occasion of the year for Salt Spring Island is the Fall Fair which is held here. Two days of displays of entries in competitive exhibits of home grown fruits, vegetables, and handmade preserves, pies and cakes, crafts, basketry, pottery, weaving & spinning, as well as quilts, rugs and clothing made by SSI residents. There is also a stage with Island Musicians, stalls selling food such as lamb burgers, homemade pies from the Salt Spring Women's Institute, corn on the cob, coffee and cotton-candy, plus more.
A grand meeting of many people from both on and off island, the Fall Fair is a celebration of both the past & present of SSI. With over 450 volunteers taking part in the planning and production, the Fair is a integral part of Island life.

At other times in the year the site of the Farmers' Institute is host to various other Community events such as the After-Grad Dance; Quilting; Hosting the summer Toy Ride, and many other events. With indoor bathrooms and showers attached to the large exhibition halls, this site is an excellent place for large gatherings of people. There is also level space for camping, along with convenient proximity to Ganges.

Cute venue for the fall festival! Lots of space and great food stands! Don't try to park very close, though, depending on the event. It's not as long of a walk as it looks down most of the roads!
