If there was an option to give -100stars, than porthawkesbury/nova scotia legal aid would take the cake. IF YOU ARE A PERSON OR COLOR, OR A MINORITY GROUP. BE VERY CAUTIOUS ⚠️ ⚠️ ⚠️. The whole legal aid system in nova scotia has many cracks on it. And has a lot of catching up to do. If you feel you are being discriminated or steriotyped by them be cautious about bringing it up. I told my lawyer jeffery (columbus) even the name is effed up. I told him I feel as though I am being discriminated and he withdrew from my important case. I went through their chain of command starting with Kevin patrique. The supervising atourney. I explained to him how I felt, instead of helping he began an hour long debate about how wrong I was and how glorious the justice system was. Very ignorant. Than I went through the chain and talked to other higher ups and they all debated with me. Very well respected people who worked with legal aid for a long time. Would rather debate with an indigenous person than to admit there are problems with their system. Speaking to 7 of their staff not one person helped instead they all debated with me. There is a lack of cultural sensitivity. And to think that these people are the ones who help mikmaq people keep their children home. 🙄 the treatment i recieved has devastated me and caused me a great deal of undue hardships. Their cultural advisor is just as bad. How.many people have they done this to? It brings me a great deal of pain knowing that this is how they treat residential school survivors and their decendants. We are damaged people. Their system has destroyed us. Atleast accommodate us. Nova scotia legal aid offers help too poor people. And a good majority of poor people are people of color or minorities. They need to be held accountable for the way they deal with their clients. Shame on nova scotia legal aid. Stop committing these un constitutional acts on us.
