I called this place for suggestions on legal help as they advised they help tenants. My call was returned by a guy who tried to ask me how I would solve my own situation, and what I would do to help tenants that are dealing with difficult or unfair landlords. Everytime I brought the conversation back to my request for any suggestions on who to speak with, he would again try to ask me for my advice on how acorn can bring attention to issues affecting tenants. He then tried to ask me for a 25-35 $ monthly payment to be a “member” claiming they are looking for help to bring attention to the housing crisis. I told him I would not discuss further until I got a reference on who to speak with for legal help, he then said “sure hold on a minute” and hung up.
These people are vultures that feed on the community through trickery and manipulation. I cannot begin to explain how disgusted I am with this organization.

I went to this organization to use the "free" tax clinic they offer, but after my taxes were filed I was taken into a private room where they attempted to pressure me into donating $25 for tax clinic service and $15 a month membership fee. When I said I was using this service because I'm on OW and have limited income, and they really made me feel like garbage. Had I known there was going to be a fee, I would not have used their service. So, just a heads up: The tax clinic is NOT really free. You either donate or get shamed for not being able to commit to monthly donations.

ACORN is one of the only organizations that actually helps poor communities without hidden motives. The organizers are passionate about social justice and give communities the tools and resources to make sure their voices are heard. I appreciate all the work that they’ve done to change policies and continue to do so.

I’ve also used their tax site and they’re so lovely to work with. All of their volunteers & employees are patient, kind and professional. Never had a problem getting my taxes done!

I’ve sent a written letter before the 5th of the month asking to cancel my membership and not be contracted by this organization, but still they take money out of my account and continuously call me. I felt a lot of pressure and guilt shaming into joining even though I told them I was financially unstable. This made me feel uncomfortable and I would not recommend this organization, especially to those suffering from mental health issues.

These ppl work hard within the limitations of our social safety networks to get more for those with very little. Don't go into the office expecting a miracle and you won't leave disappointed.

Was involved in the NB chapter for 2 years until there was a personal conflict between myself and the selF-APPOINTED LEADER who questioned my research information skills and information that I brought to him. Once confirmed the information was accurate neither he or the REPRESENTATIVE John that looked after this area would APOLOGIZE. It was then I discovered this was not where I wanted to be. I left, formed my own group and have successfully resolved many issues for people. What Accorn does for people is very important but on the personel side they need to be more trusting.
