The Moosonee Health Centre, commonly called the clinic in Moosonee, is operated by the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA). It was formerly the Moosonee Wing of the James Bay General Hospital which was merged with Weeneebayko. Until the 1960s Moosonee had its own hospital but that burned down in 1967 and was replaced with a small clinic, originally located downtown but later moved to the present site. The Centre is staffed by nurses and nurse practitioners and medical doctors make regular visits from the hospital in Moose Factory. There are no family doctors in Moosonee so the Centre is really the only medical facility. Wait times are probably better than times down south in emergency rooms but it can take quite a while to get a doctor's appointment except in cases of emergency. The Centre has a treatment room with three beds but no X-ray machine.
