Last Door Recovery Treatment Centre has saved and changed my son’s life and our family. The approach to recovery is unique because they encourage the guys to make connections with their house mates and the people in the community so they can meet and see like minded individuals living their lives clean and the successes that they are able to obtain by living in recovery. The treatment centre is also very family oriented and what I love most is that when my son completed the program I was able to continue staying connected with the parents of the guys that were in treatment with my son. Recovery is possible and obtainable and there are so many gifts with recovery. I highly recommend this treatment centre to any one looking for themselves or a family member or friend. Our experience with Last Door, Vancouver, has been second to none. Between our two sons, we have experienced a total of five treatment centers: one in Ontario, three in Saskatchewan and one (Last Door) in B.C. My husband and I can say that Last Door has a very unique, inclusive, community-based approach that sets it apart. The other centers offered 30 day programs (one offered 42 days), and although Last Door offers these options, their more effective program (in our view) is for 90+ days. Last Door lets you add months (at a reasonable cost) as you go, which was not an option at the other centers.

The community-based programming is exceptional at Last Door, as not only do the "boys" find their community of peers who support them and become friends, but the parents are also encouraged, through regular meetings and parent-retreats, to establish a community of parents who support each other. Last Door is, therefore, life-changing for both the addict and his parents if they choose to access all of the available resources and opportunities.

Our two sons are both in recovery at present, and we credit Last Door completely for one of their recoveries, and in part for the other - the latter because we learned things at the parent retreat that helped us establish boundaries which, in turn, contributed to our other son going into treatment.

In summary, my husband and I would highly recommend Last Door, even for families located outside of BC, and especially for Last Door's 90+ day program.

My partner went through the door and has recently started a career as a drug and alcohol support worker.

The program was holistic and focused on community connections which I found helpful versus a facility where clients can be isolated from "everyday life".

There is also comprehensive and supportive support programs/support groups for the parents, partners, and families of clients which I found very helpful! The staff there was always available for any questions I had regarding my partner's needs/progress so I felt like I was in the loop and knew what I needed to do to set myself and my partner up for success in the future.

When our son entered Last Door, he was in one of the darkest places imaginable. He was battling addiction, recovering from psychosis, and had lost hope. He isolated himself from everyone who cared about him, and we weren’t sure if we’d ever get him back. Within weeks of starting at Last Door, things began to change. We saw glimpses of the person we once knew, and now, just a few months later, he’s back—not just surviving, but thriving. We are forever grateful.

What makes Last Door so effective is the authenticity and connection they offer. Everyone—staff, counselors, and peers—has walked the same path of recovery. There’s a deep sense of understanding and camaraderie that creates an environment where kindness, accountability, and growth flourish. Our son has formed deep friendships with people who truly understand him. These connections give him strength, confidence, and the support he needs to help him stay the course.

The family program at Last Door has been transformative. Through their group sessions and Family Enhancement Weekend, we learned about boundaries, self-care, and how to navigate codependency. These lessons changed how we approach recovery, not just for our son, but for ourselves as well. We now have a network of families who’ve walked a similar path, and we feel supported, hopeful, and no longer alone. Knowing we’re on this journey with him has strengthened our entire family.

Perhaps the greatest gift Last Door has given our son is the understanding that recovery is his responsibility. He’s developed the tools to rebuild his life, strengthen his relationships, and move forward with confidence. He’s always been intelligent and kind, but now those qualities shine even brighter and we couldn’t be prouder of the progress he’s made.

Being part of the Last Door community is something we feel privileged to share. There’s no stigma here—just pride. Their decades of success and the strength of their alumni network have created an unshakable foundation of support. For us, this isn’t just a recovery program; it’s a family.

Last door and the New Westminster community gave me my life back, they gave me the tools I need to live a clean and happy life, I highly recommend this place if you or a love one is in need of help, their approach to recovery and the brotherhood I gained from this place is the only reason I am a good present father to my daughter and a son who my parents no longer are worried sick about.
