I experienced discrimination and unfair treatment at ISS of BC.

As a new immigrant registering for a LINC6 language class.I needed to register for an online course. On the first day, I was warmly welcomed by a staff member who informed me that online courses had a waiting list of about 1–2 months. They suggested I look into other schools if I was in a hurry to start.

I decided to register for an online course at ISS of BC.The next morning, during heavy rush-hour traffic, I spent nearly two hours one way to return to the registration office. However, this time, I was assisted by a Korean staff member, and this is where I experienced discrimination and unfair treatment.

She told me the online course waitlist was now 5–6 months, claiming someone had been moved ahead of me via phone. I don’t understand why I had to come in person while others could do it by phone.

She also rejected my documents, rudely demanding a photo ID and doubted my identity, even implying that I might have stolen my documents. In fact, the landing paper does not have a photo. I question whether she truly understands the registration process. BTW,these same documents were accepted at another school without issue.

Ultimately, After two exhausting days, I still couldn’t register due to her unreasonable demands and unnecessary obstacles

I hope others don’t have to experience what I went through with her.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to this organization that serves and supports those in need, including refugees, on their journey of resettlement in a new country where they may not speak the language. My experience was wonderful, especially with my RAP Case Manager, Huda Alanny, who is a true example of dedication and commitment to her work. I do have some reservations about the housing staff, but overall, it was a great experience that deserves all appreciation and gratitude.

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Hassina and the team at ISSofBC, and it was an exceptional experience.
From the outset, she demonstrated a deep commitment to supporting newcomers in our community. Her professionalism and passion for fostering inclusivity and empowerment were evident in every aspect of our work.

Since joining the programs at ISSofBC, I have achieved significant milestones, earning over three certifications that have deepened my understanding of Canadian culture and the workplace environment. This journey has equipped me with valuable skills and set me toward my dream goals.

Working with ISSofBC is not just about meeting objectives; it's about creating a positive impact in individuals' lives. I wholeheartedly recommend Hassina and the ISSofBC team to anyone looking to engage in meaningful work that truly makes a difference.

Thanks to ISSofBC and Hassina unwavering support, I am confident that the future I envision is around the corner. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and grateful for the guidance and resources provided by this incredible organization.

Just not what you expect, they give you opinions and look at your documents if you made them right, for the rest you have to do it yourself, all services are just on paper, no settlement program if you can't afford anything, you are absolutely westing you time people just keeping in the office so they get a salary at the end of the day.
If you have to make a application they asking you to make it yourself they can't tipe a work permit form nope so do it yourself.

ISS of BC has been such a valuable resource for immigrants like me. It’s not just about learning new skills, but also about finding a warm and supportive community. I joined a biking program here and, with the help of skilled instructors, I learned how to bike.

Elmir and Mahsa weren’t just supportive, kind, and professional—they were patient, encouraging, and truly dedicated to helping us succeed.

I’m so thankful to everyone who’s working hard to make Canada feel like home for immigrants.

I called on behalf of a friend who can not speak english. I had a simple question about the SOS program; if we could make an appointment before going, because we needed a spanish speaker. That is it. The desk lady answered the phone, yelling, "How can I help you?!" And when I try to ask her, she sighs like she was annoyed and said,"Go to Canada Immigration website. They will tell you what to do. "

I just said "thank you" and hung up. If I can just go and check in the website, then what services are you providing? Also, will it kill you to be more understanding and kind? Will it kill you to let people speak and at least ask what they actually want to ask?

This was today. 1:10 p.m. and I just hope whoever is at that desk knows that she left a very bad impression. If you treat people like that on the phone... how do you treat them when they go to the office?

Go up
