Visiting from British Columbia but had to go to the ER for abdominal pain and a possible infection at 19 weeks pregnant because no pharmacist would prescribe anything without a doctor's prescription and as luck would have it, it was a Sunday when all walk-in clinics were closed. The registration and triage process was seemless. The nurses were very kind, Melanie in particular who took my blood sample. We arrived between 5 and 6pm and still haven't seen a doctor (it is now past 3am and things still aren't looking promising). Furthermore, I had to help an elderly woman who was in a wheelchair to the restroom when no other staff but security were around. There were THREE security personnel not doing anything in their surveilance room who just WATCHED me help her and could clearly see we weren't sitting together and didn't know each other while they ate their UberEats. I am happy to help and assist people when they need it and when staff are clearly overwhelmed, but I could not believe the lack of professionalism from the security staff at this hospital. I know the hospitality aspect isn't necessarily part of their typical role, but it should never get to a point where an ER patient has to assist another ER patient when there is still one staff or volunteer present and not otherwise occupied. Some major reforms need to be made in Canada's healthcare system. I can speak from multiple experiences that BC emergency rooms are no better. This is an insult to taxpayer money and an embarrassment for our country.

Went to the emergency department because I sliced my toe open on a can lid and it wouldn’t stop bleeding. All the staff were extremely helpful and kind to me. I was given my tetanus shot and then luckily was seen very quickly, likely because just a quick stitch up was needed. Dr. Brown was lovely and stitched up my toe after numbing it thoroughly. Overall a great experience because of the wonderful people working there.

Delivered my daughter at QEH. Everyone’s super helpful.

Just really not enough healthcare workers I guess. I need to wait while in labor as some of the staffs (ie. anesthesiologist) is still in another operation.

On another note, you need to wait for 8 hrs or more when you visit Emergency.

I came to the hospital yesterday at 7 PM with severe stomach pain. I registered and have now been waiting for over 12 hours — it’s 7 AM, and I still haven’t seen a doctor.

As a taxpayer contributing 15%, I’m asking: can’t even 1% be used to ensure timely and humane health care for the people? If this is how the system treats someone who pays into it, how are poor and vulnerable people supposed to get the help they need?

Canada deserves better. Patients deserve better. We need a health care system that actually cares.

I have had excellent care from all the staff in the many departments that I have had the good fortune to meet. Care and service is patient centred and delivered in a prompt professional manner. This Island’s health care is in very capable hands.
