My wife & I were desperately looking for a new apartment to live in, I had discovered on Google one weekend that there was a potential opportunity at an Apartment Building recently purchased by Kiwanis Non-Profit Homes in the west-end of Hamilton, ON. The building was catering and accepting Seniors only (age 60-and up). We inquired online and were given out an electronic application to apply for a potential dwelling (if we qualified). After a bit of difficulty filling out an electronic application, we got a paper application and submitted into Kiwanis Homes for a rental unit. Apparently at this time , there was ONLY three units available at this particular building. After a bit of misconstrued communications between the rental staff and our selves, eventually everything was ironed out for us to view a unit(s) at this Seniors Building. These units are very difficult to get accepted, very much criteria to qualify just to live in this particular building. After viewing and having a choice on what unit we would want (after being chosen and accepted) from a full docket of people inquiring about this particular building, we then selected the apartment that we requested and confirmed with the Rental/Leasing Manager Mrs. Lisa Cook, Mrs. Kathy Nagy and Mr. Brian Sibley all in collaboration together, made a decision to accept us as tenants. We were overwhelmed and very grateful of their decision to give us a chance and opportunity of Affordable Housing (not “geared to income)” rent . There’s a huge difference, in any event on this day of rental rates going basically out of control all over Canada, post COVID, we are ecstatic at our new place. Many friendly residents, and very organized by Management on hand here, from the Resident Superintendent Mr. R. Larkin and the Property Manager Mr. Tom Moore Property & Support & Quality Control. Hoping this is our last move, as we are definitely getting too old for moving (we’ve moved too much, to mention in the past 5-10 years). We feel like we’ve “died and gone to Heaven” here from where we came from. Extremely serene, quiet and a comfortable feeling of retirement finally.
We would like to profusely thank Kiwanis Non-Profit Homes and Staff involved for helping out these two seniors to a pleasant atmosphere and environment in Senior Living & Retirement!
Kudos to Kiwanis

Excellent place to reside in-Kiwanis treat their tenants fairly and respectfully. Provide affordable housing for people in these high costs of rental situations (2024). Friendly staff on hand.

I've been living in a Kiwanis home for ten years and I've had nothing but incredible experiences with this property. So much in fact that it's so hard to believe there are so many poor reviews.

I email and someone calls me back same or next day. No matter the problem. Sometimes it's rodents, sometimes it's a maintenance issue like an electrical outlet not having enough power or a leaky faucet. I never have to wait, ever.

They come every 6 months to check that the fire/CO2 alarms are working and once a year for water heater/radiator maintenance.

Since we've lived here we've had our kitchen redone as well.

I have such a completely different experience than the other people posting on here, and I like to think that the score is so low because people are more likely to come online to post something negative, than something positive.

I hope this review helps people choose to live in a property managed by this company because they're the best imo.

To collect the rent is so easy for them but Kathy Nagy and others dont do absolutely anything for you! if you got any problems with the neighbors beside you they just tell you oh just ignore them and continues like nothing happened, if you want to get a problem solved they will turn against you & blame you instead, if neighbors destroy or vandalize your personal property you're on your own They won't anything about it, kathy tells you to move out if making complaint

The place needs new staff.

Alice is rather rude and does little to accommodate my disabilities on the phone. They don't tell you when Hydro is automatically moved into your name. So now collections is coming after me because they didn't notify the Hydro company that I didn't move into the apartment but I'm still being charged for it. Poor communication skills

This company is only responsible when it comes to getting want they want I've bin living in a small home size of a shed with a daughter and dog with unbelievable black mold for 3 years with no one taking this situation seriously . Maintenance told me that this house would be spotless and brand new before I move this place , I'm pretty sure this house was built in 1950 or 40s with not even one update to the place my backyard bigger then my whole house . I strongly dont not recommend this company especially for single mothers .
