A housing project owned by the filipino association in Winnipeg. It is downtown and close to lots of filipino and asian goods and services.
It has been a housing coop since 1992 but it is located in an old normal school (teachers college) that was built in 1904.
The units are showing their age but look to have been built well but are definitely not luxurious
It is an interesting question whether such facilities basically built for a particular group of people is either socially or financially feasible. Only a small portion of the community will be able to live there. I believe that the building was free or very cheap and it probably preserved a very beautiful exterior but it nust have taken a lot of effort and capital to produce. I am an old grumpy free market person and have sern lots of abuse of social projects.
