Doctor Amen is the WORST. Don't even bother.

Update July 2025:
I took my 5 year old son into the ER due to strep throat. Dr Amen examined and swabbed him, she told me it doesn't look like strep and we HAVE TO wait for swabs to come back before antibiotics. My son had the worst strawberry tongue my pharmacist had ever seen, that's why we went to the hospital. My 5 year old suffered another 48 hours until swabs returned back POSITIVE FOR STREP. He developed blisters over his entire body during that 48 hours that could have been avoided potentially with treatment. DO NOT TRUST DR AMEN WITH ANY DIAGNOSIS OR LACK THEREOF, YOUR HEALTH IS SERIOUSLY AT RISK IN HER HANDS.

Update April 30 2024:
Dr Amen thought to call my husband and YELL AT HIM for half an hour yesterday about how it wasn't "her fault" that he received no medical care in Mayerthorpe hospital for 3 days while in heart failure, and also that it wasn't her fault that she prescribed him two different beta blockers that literally almost killed him. Had he not gone to another hospital in Edmonton when he did, he was told by the doc in Edmonton that he'd be DEAD due to Dr Amen prescribing two highly interactive medications. SHE called my husband yesterday and YELLED AT HIM because I posted the review above. We'd already sent complaints to AHS as well as the college of physicians and surgeons...and we'll be updating those complaints with yesterday's harrassment from her.

Dr Amen is hands down the most incompetent, dangerous doctor I have ever met. She takes no responsibility for her actions and mistakes, she keeps trying to blame pharmacists and technology for her incompetence, laziness and poor patient care. The problem is Dr Amen and her inability to manage her time and patients needs.

DO NOT go to see Dr Amen for anything more than a sniffle. It's YOUR life on the line.

Don't recommend. Been going here for about 10 years, have fought with my family doctor everytime i wish to get a referral, and she also doesnt even remember me half the time i go in. Have heard from others that its not a great place and have left.

Upon my last meeting with said family doctor to fire them and get a new one, this is what i found in the room: the trim around the window had been pulled off of the wall. The nails are sticking out of the wood and if you sit on the bed and lean onto the wall, you'd probably get a nail or two in the back.

I child would most likely get hurt from this. So would some naive adults just wishing to relax while waiting for the doctor to see them.

Show up 30 minutes after your appointment and then you will only be about 10 minutes early.

Phone appointment. The Dr., Misses the time slot and calls after clinic is closed and I can't return call. Good job.

I find the front desk to be very friendly and accommodating, thanks.
My doctor is A+. I think we are very fortunate to have such a wonderful clinic in Mayerthope and for all the surrounding areas.

I've been visiting this family medical clinic for a few visits now. The office calls to remind you of your visit upcoming visit. The staff and Doctors are attentive accommodating. Although, I asked for a female doctor and non was available at the time. I was assigned to Dr. Tony in the meantime, I still had good visits with Dr. Tony. I would recomend Dr. Tony to anyone who needs a doctor and doesn't mind seeing a male doctor. Even if you do mind, I can't complain on how my visits went. The man treated me with respect and listened to what I was saying. It is an older building, mind-you it is clean and tidy, as well as a calming environment. Masks are provided at the door, seeing as the office wishes you to wear one, the staff and doctors wear masks as well. This is a busy clinic and appointment get taken up fast, so when setting an appointment, it is best to do so as early in the month and day as possible.

Does anyone actually write up or fire the receptionists that purposely input your number in wrong because you got into an argument with them? I've missed referrals and wasted time because the receptionist here has an attitude problem and put in my phone number in wrong. This seems to be a common thing with receptionists taking matters into there own hand to eff over a patient because they were put in there place. You would think doctors would be in control over dismissing a patient you know someone who ACTUALLY went to medical school. Not some woman who acts like shes in grade 9 still and decides if you deserve help with your health? So Basically these girls can do whatever they want because nobody listens to there phone calls and keeps track of there work ethic and holds them accountable. Go canada!

Very friendly staff, very punctual and professional. Doctor Tony was wonderful! Glad that Mayerthorpe has a good clinic like this one. Keep up the great work! 🙂

Doctor let his own "morals" become more of a priority over my health. Felt like he wasn't really listening to any of my concerns and what not. And came off rather rude.
