I feel like it's really easy to give a one star review, and to say how terrible the children's aid societies in Canada are, and take absolutely no responsibility for my poor choices in life, but I decided to be honest and talk about the amazing experience I had with the folks who work at this particular Children's and Family services agency. Without going into too much detail, I was not making healthy choices for me or my children, and my children were removed from my care many years ago. I then moved to Sudbury , met someone, and had 2 more little girls. Even with my past, the worker judged me on my current situation, helped me to build skills and confidence in parenting, walked with me, not for me, and I had a fabulous experience from intake all the way to discharge. I now have been asked to be on their parent advisory committee, which was so huge for me it's unreal. I found that the people who work here want your family to stay together, they want to work with you, but in the end they want the best for the child over the adult. Adults are able to make choices for themselves, speak for themselves, children are vulnerable and are not able to make healthy choices for themselves, which is why these people get paid to knock on our doors, put themselves in danger, and do one of the worst, yet probably most fulfilling jobs in the world. A job where they have to go home thinking about that poor hungry little baby, or about the little girl who screamed for her mom, or about the little boy on life support cuz dad went too far. They have to see all that and more, but they still put a smile on and help the next family, and put up with a TON of abuse. We are all responsible for our choices, and children don't get taken arbitrarily most of the time now a days. This particular agency is very different from any I've ever interacted with. If you need help, reach out. Don't pretend things are fine because you're afraid of them, ask for help before you become overwhelmed and it's too late. That's why they're here.

I showed childrens aid my ex wife's abuse with lots of evidence. It was simply ignored. In fact, ex was screaming I should have my throat sliced on one occasion, I told the CAS the kids listened to this stuff a lot. She would take severe temper tantrums and shes 37. My son has missed 16 days of school in September. Go-ahead count how many school days in September. I sent CAS my sons teacher concerns to the 2 workers who "worked the case" ...no response.

They truly do not care about kids wellbeing. They never talked to our oldest who was home every visit. He was ready to tell them that his mom is mentally ill.
The one worker even encouraged my ex to kick me out of the house, while the other refused to see evidence, plus other things ignored...now family is broken up and ex is broke, won't let me see my kids while I threw her $$ and I had no choice but to finally press charges which they are aware of also, assault, strangling and uttering death threats, closed case.

Very very saddening.

We have been dealing with the same old song and dance with these people for the last 4 years because my partners ex has been maliciously calling every opportunity to make our lives miserable. Worst yet, they were involved before I was in the picture and HE was the cause of the concern... maybe they should learn to read their files before they start a whole new case.

I reached out to them looking to adopt, two years ago. Then a year passed with no communication or progress. Two weeks ago I reached out via email and I still don't have a reply. I can't understand how this system protects children when I've been waiting all this time just to get the process started.

In my opinion this place doesn’t even deserve a single star. I would like to know how you go about the hiring process? And who, if anyone is actually working on behalf of the children and not just your fat pay check..? There is a child that is living in absolute filthy conditions; dirty feminine products around the bathroom, a toilet that looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in years, a mouse infestation, dirty dishes, moldy fridge with expired food, mountains of clothes piled everywhere. Abusive relationships inside the home. Child being left alone in the mornings. But yet the case is closed.?
Do these people even do “investigations” anymore? You need to be mandated by someone other then yourselves because it’s a joke. You’ll never convince me that this crooked organization has the child’s best needs in mind because if they did. I know a child who currently wouldn’t be with their guardian if these people did their jobs.
If you have a complaint best of luck but I wouldn’t bother wasting my time

While I wish I didnt have to write this review, my experience with CAS in Sudbury has not been awful. They have a job to do, and they are just trying to do it. We as parents, cannot control malicious false claims against us, but these workers are trained and experienced enough to see through them. I have to say the workers I got (megan fornier) and michelle (sorry last name escapes me at the moment), 2 separate occasions, both pleasant women and very kind, easy to talk to. While it's hard not to feel anxious and judged when CAS knocks at the door, try to keep in mind they are checking in on your child(ren) and want to make sure they're safe. Sometimes, they can open doors for you or speed up wait times when it comes to medical needs aswell! Let them help you if you need it, and if you're a good, hard working parent, you have absolutely nothing to be scared of.
