I thought I was in a wonderful workplace for 19 months. Gave my heart and soul there, literally I never was anything but generous in spirit and gave unconditional love to co-workers and residents. I had a very strong first performance review. *** I believe questions arose about me when I asked a question about why an occurrence or incident was not documented.

A rumour developed about me while I was on a one month leave of absence in January. I was not aware of what it was. I had some clues. But I resigned when I was treated with great suspicion as I was returning. For what reason, I didn't know. I think I just figured out today the details of this. I am still shocked and impacted when I think of how things changed.
I believe now that the manager and her POC believed I had taken a client's medication. (The POC handling this was also my union rep!) I couldn't figure out why they suddenly treated me strangely.... and then horrifyingly! I was told I was being banned from the house until my shifts began. I was also forbidden to speak to any coworkers. Was not told why. Of course they believed I knew exactly why! A few minutes before being confronted by my manager, and the director of Client Services, I had been asked if I had only taken one pill. I said yes. I thought my coworker was referring to me mentioning that I had taken a pill to get to sleep (I had had insomnia and slept very little for a few nights) I thought she asked if I had only had to rely on one pill to get me though my few days of insomnia..... she, I think now, was asking if I had only taken one PRN from a client!! Nothing else, IMO, explains this level of 180 degree turn.

Some people love working there, even stay for 20 years...but I can not recommend freely because of what I experienced and a few other things I heard from those who'd been there longer. Up until this time I loved and admired my manager....I still do, she is a lovely woman. l saw her as a breath of fresh air in the world of uncaring people.

But I literally didn't know questions to ask to find out what was going on behind my back. Because it was behind my back!! Managers and managing staff need training in communication, quite apparent, as well as leadership principles, professional workplace protocol, and how to run a staff meeting that isn't like sitting in a pew and listening to the announcements at a very old school church. Minimal interaction is tolerated. Yup, if you can help this group in a mgmt position, yeah, definitely work there. But for a caregiver, there has to be somewhere better to utilize your skills, at least till some of the (not obvious) messes are cleared up.
*** I would give 5 stars for how they treat their residents. It was beautiful to see the care given there. 💯 would still recommend for families of the disabled. Everyone seemed to care deeply for the ones they're serving...... that was the unifying factor there that makes it work as well as it does. The province is right to have utmost confidence in Bethesda being a great place for those served.

Everyone is very friendly. My stepson was in their summer camps last year and he had a great time and they took good care of him.

The staff have been really helpful with any questions I've had and pointing in the right direction for who to contact and where to go.

Some managers are great, others are horrible. If you get a poor manager….so much drama, they do not treat their clients or employees with respect. Super high staff turnover because of this. Very disappointing.
