Felt completely dismissed today when I unfortunately had to go into the branch to update my account information that Alterna withdraws funds from (due to a criminal stealing my cheque book from my purse and having to close my old account as a result) and was made to feel like a major inconvenience! I was literally doing my due diligence in order to PREVENT bouncing my mortgage and it seemed like no one wanted to deal with me. The teller was having issues with making this change and then suddenly told me she can’t help me without paperwork from my other bank (after 20 min of already being there). When I came back with the paperwork 10 minutes later, the teller I was dealing with was on lunch so the other teller told me she can’t help me and she will have to pass the paperwork along to the one who was on break. When I asked about the NSF charges, they said that’ll I’ll be charged (even though I’m trying to rectify this by providing my new account info). I have been a loyal client for years (with PACE) and I did not appreciate the way I was treated today. I will be looking for another organization who actually appreciates their clients to do future business with.

The switch from PACE to Alterna was disruptive… and that’s an understatement. Alterna is terrible and I am sad to write this review because this credit union was my bank for 2 decades. I feel bad for the loyal employees that are still working there. This bank is not what it used to be. The credit union has switched ownership a few times over the years (Innisfil Credit Union, People’s Credit Union, PACE). When they switched to Alterna they froze everyone’s accounts for several days at the end of June/beginning of July. At least they gave a warning about this, and it was at that time I jumped to another bank so I would be able to pay my bills on time. Now that I have officially closed my account they garnished 50% of my member share claiming that’s how much it cost to print the cheque. It was mailed without a tracking number and in an envelope you could see through the plastic window that it was a cheque. If you’re reading this and thinking of leaving Alterna, you should leave. If you are looking for a bank, keep looking because you don’t want to deal with this one.

I would recommend changing your store hours or opening on a Saturday so people who work 8-5(typically job) can actually do in person banking.

This branch has declined to lousy and unfriendly service. I have been a member of the local Credit Union for the past 60+ years - until now.
Regrets if any - that I did not leave sooner.

Small town feel, with big bank abilities. Why pay fees anymore? Save money and get good customer service, switch to a credit union today!

With being a member for over 10 years there services and quality of service has gone down hill to the point I wonder why I even bank with them anymore.
