Signed my 12yr old up for a afterschool social group. As a mother of a child on the spectrum (and low vision) I've watched my son struggle to make meaningful connections with his peers, so when we got into this after school program we both were over the moon! I sent the papers and did all I needed (or so i thought) my son was so excited to start in just a few short weeks. I have 3 children and my house got hit with a bad flu, it just made it's rounds threw us and my house was down for 3 weeks. During these 3 weeks I got no email or phone call from inclusion. It's 2 days before my sons first group that he is not sick and can actually attend and I get a email saying he is no longer a part of the group cause there was no response from AF and they have not been paid. I sent a email back pleeding, saying I can call and do whatever I need here to get the funding put through and I had no idea there was any sort of issue as I was never contacted till it was too late I guess. Well, it's been about a year and I still haven't got a response to my email. Think how heart broken my kid was when I told him he can't go anymore, Think about the tears from a child who wants to be a part of something so bad and they just kicked him out without contacting me or giving me the opportunity to fix whatever went wrong with the paperwork. Inclusion? Not in our experience.
