We walked in with the sole intention of checking out the hamsters they had. We walked out with both of them, having adopted them on the spot. Pet shelter amateurs.

Staff was friendly, showed a lot of care towards the animals, and expressed that they wanted to find the right home for these guys. The location was clean and well cared for.

The hamsters were a mother and daughter pair that were going to be transferred to another location the day after we visited. We weren’t expecting to grab them, but the hamsters caught our hearts. The paperwork and assessment was straightforward and easy. Shout out to Melanie for her warmth and her support as well as Theresa for her help.

I cannot express enough appreciation for the generosity, kindness and love SPCA staff show to animals. It is an amazing organization. We are so grateful of the staff at the SPCA West Van branch as they helped us through the adoption process of our beautiful 2 year old Retriever. The staff was so kind, friendly and accommodating to our circumstances. After a long time searching, we have finally found the perfect addition to our family. Thank you for the great work you do!

What a great experience!!!
We went here for adopting a cat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The interview went well and the staff listened to our thoughts about adopting a cat very patiently. The process was very clear and fast. They also provided us a lot of information. We came home with our sweet Hilda. She is bonded with us right away. Amazingly, she comes to you when you call her, she stops doing when you say ‘No’, she stays when you say ‘stay’. We are so thankful to SPCA and her owner before giving her such good manners .

WestVan SPCA are absolutely amazing. Each animal comes in scared and lost, and they are quickly assessed and given medical care. They don't just get food and shelter, but also therapy so they fit in more easily in their forever homes. The staff and volunteers put such a lot of time and effort into assessing each animal's strengths, weaknesses and needs, and finding just the right home. I'm sure some people get impatient that they can't just "buy" a pet, or come in an play with the rescues, but the continual training that every volunteer gets ensures that animals don't get put under extra stress.

We adopted a rabbit from this branch and everything went smoothly and efficiently. We communicated the most with Brynne and she was friendly, helpful, and supportive! The new bun and our other bunny have happily bonded and we are so glad to be able to provide a loving home for this little guy. He was found wandering on the streets before the SPCA rescued him. Now he is safe and loved by us 🙂

Their interview process is great. They do an awesome job of keeping their social media up to date with new animals show cased all the time. They took fabulous care of my dog before she became mine!

I am sorry for the long and sad post. I wish I never had to post this. SPCA should reconsider their protocols and they way they deal with problematic dogs. I've been there since July , and we witnessed euthanasia of three dogs ( 2 puppies , one young adult ). Global new already covered the story of the 10 month old Echo. About Hunter another dog, we spent hours with him cuddling and walking, and he was VERY CALM AND GENTLE with people AND WE NEVER SAW AN AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOUR. He was a big dog(great Pyrenees) and he didn't like other animals. Nonetheless, SPCA put him in a home with a cat , and the cat was badly injured by Hunter ,but the manager of SPCA West Vancouver first told me that the cat is killed but when I asked the details she said that the cat was injured.
About Chuck , he was an excitable one-year-old Labrador - pit-bull mix, but the SPCA dog trainer many times did not let volunteers walk Chuck. Even our little dog gets so hyperactive if I don't walk him for a day!!! Both dogs were quickly and surprisingly euthanized and SPCA keeps these cases secret from the public.
