Amazing people, they should be given a metal or some sort of award!!! They are such genuinely good people, it's so refreshing these days to see this! They are so helpful and caring! I have nothing bad to say about them. I had my doubts but the treatment they gave my made me want to volunteer for them. When i go through a bunch of stuff at my house that's where I'll be donating it because i love the way they run it and i want to show my appreciation.

The Rock Soup Greenhouse and Food Bank in Wetaskiwin Alberta is a non-profit organization and makes my heart sing. In all my years I have never seen an organization who works so hard for their community and it all started with one man’s vision who tirelessly brought his idea to fruition with immense hard work and determination. If you can I urge you to donate to this worthy non-profit organization, and here is why.
Craig Haavaldsen is Executive Director and has been sleeping in a tent onsite to raise money to help pay rent and stock the shelves. He has provided the community with a food bank that provides dignity and autonomy to the clientele by allowing them to shop for their specific needs so there is no waste and they take eat what they take. They get limited assistance from Edmonton & Calgary food banks; they are not affiliated with any church or religious organization (which makes me very happy) and utilize social media campaigns to stock their shelves. I think they are amazing! They even have a gluten free section in honor of a local resident, The Nevada Project & a pet pantry. They also supply products for mothers and have a section for babies. I wish I could donate more but my soft spot is to provide menstrual products and supplying dog food and treats.
Craig has built an amazing group of volunteers who have put in hours of work by fixing, painting and creating a space that when you walk in you feel like you are in a small country store. The greenhouse has been lovingly restored and just recently has all the heaters working which will soon provide fresh vegetables to the community. There is so much more to do.
They have a FB page – The Rock Soup Greenhouse and Foodbank - so you can read the back story of Rock Soup and they connect with the community. I love their modality and know everyone who volunteers has the best interests of our community at heart. I am a serial volunteer for 30+ years, but this one has a piece of my heart because of the altruistic caring hearts and souls who give their very best to this community.

I appreciate how this is a safe place to go and decide what your family needs / wants vs what a traditional food bank provides for you. The owner and volunteer are all so kind to every person.
