This place has so much potential but it is managed by a bunch of muppets. Took my family of 6 swimming on Sunday Feb 16, family day long weekend. They had the large pool in the middle closed, and the blue water slide closed, and the flow rider closed for swimming lessons, while the rest of the rec pools were chock a block stacked with people. Why would you close 30-50% of the swimming area during the busiest time, on family day weekend? It was -25°C outside and I wanted to still stay active with my family so we thought swimming would be fun. Also the kiddie pool was freezing, and my little ones could only swim in it for a bit, and then would have to evacuate to the hot tub. We made a fun game where they had to go from the hot tub and jump into the kiddie pool and called it the “Polar Bear Plunge”. Maybe the managers wanted to create a temperature contrast hydrotherapy circuit for kids? If this facility is receiving public money, they need to receive better oversight so that the swimming facility is serving the public on FAMILY DAY long weekend. Lastly the family change rooms were filthy. Yup the facility was super busy and people were not respecting the space (leaving behind their bracelets and diapers on the floor) but again the managers need to periodically check the conditions of the spaces and staff accordingly. Lots of wasted potential here.

The YMCA at Seton Calgary is a fantastic facility that I highly recommend. The pool is incredible – it's not only huge but also has a great depth, making it perfect for swimming and diving. Additionally, the indoor water park is a wonderful retreat, especially during the winter months. It's perfect for the entire family to enjoy and have a great time.

The facility also features two ice rinks and a gym, among other amenities. Although I haven't used all of the facilities, I can attest to the high quality of those I have experienced. Whether you're looking for a place to swim, dive, skate, work out, or simply relax, the YMCA at Seton Calgary has you covered.

If I could give a ½ star or no stars, it would be more accurate. The swimming, and swim lessons part of this place, is an absolute JOKE! We did several lessons with literally no communication what do ever. Every time I would ask, I was brushed off, and said my child was doing fine. Then to realize she passed the 2 group lessons at once, and no one told us. Then I was argued with saying it wasn't possible, which then the manager come back and said she did Infact pass them both. Then I had to put her in the same lessons twice again, as the water restrictions last year, and THEN AGAIN when I asked if we need to work on anything, I was met with no response, or that she's doing great. Then when the report at the end comes, she didn't pass. And when I asked about why I wasn't notified they said they didn't have the time to talk to the parents.... I ASKED EVERY SINGLE WEEK!!! but there was no time. Then I asked if the manager of the aquatics would call me, and then never did. Then they said tons of parents had the same issues, and there was nothing they would or could do about it.

Then the leisure swimming is just as stupid, as the life guards pick and choose which rules to follow, and who has to follow the rules. They give you a red wrist band, and treat you like an infant, and can't be farther than an arms reach away from a parent. Then they tell you yellow is different because if your child is 8 and older, they can do the whole one side of the pool by them selves. Then they laugh and say oh just kidding, we're not letting them be on the deep side of the pool any more either. So I asked about a swim test, and went to just show her the other side, and how far she would have to swim, and the lifeguard wouldn't even let us acknowledge the competition side existed what do ever. I asked if I could just show her. There were no swimmers, there were no spectators, it was an empty pool with lifeguards walking around, AN EMPTY POOL. But again, I wasn't even allowed to show her. Then I asked what about a swim test, and he said they weren't allowed to do it.... So she isn't trusted to swim alone, but she also isn't allowed to prove she is capable of swimming alone?
Absolute Joke of a company, and ridiculous policies!

This place would be a lot better if a decent amount of attention was placed in cleanliness of the family change rooms and pool common areas. The showers have poor water pressure and are heavily scaled with minerals, making showering unpleasant. Especially with small children. There really should be a lower count for occupancy within the pool areas. There’s a “line up” to use their hot tub. So many people, you can’t actually swim in the family area.

Just an observation worth mentioning. Otherwise this place is great with great people/ staff. Calgary could build an identical YMCA right next door and I bet there would still be over crowding. It is what it is.

We visited YMCA around 11 a.m. today, knowing it would be busy, but unfortunately, our experience was far from smooth. We waited in line for about 30 minutes just to pay, which is understandable given the time of day, but we had our 8-month-old with us, which made the wait a bit challenging.
Once we finally reached the front, we were told that the waterpark was at full capacity, and if we wanted to access it, we’d need to stand in a separate line. There were already 8 families ahead of us, and this was never communicated in advance. It would have been really helpful if there were signs or a way to inform guests about capacity limits before they waste time waiting in line.
I fully understand that these things happen especially on a long weekend! But a little more respect for guests' time and better communication would go a long way. It’s disappointing to feel like there was no consideration for families with young children who are trying to make the most of their visit.

I hope the YMCA can take this feedback into account and find a way to better manage these situations in the future.

My stuff was stolen from the women's locker room 2 days ago! And the staff can't do anything about it.

Theft situations happen there all the time and the owners don't want to worry, which is just absurd.

Safety is at zero. It's sad that this complex is positioned as the largest recreational complex in North America, yet they forgot to take care of the safety of their visitors.

It's also absolutely unacceptable that teenagers smoke vape right in the gym and in the locker rooms next to kids. And everyone also knows that groups of teenagers regularly steal things (from water bottles to phones and wallets) from other people.

The management is well aware of this and they don't give a damn about it.

If you plan to visit this place and pay money there, think about whether you want the perks of having your belongings stolen or inadequate teenagers nearby in the locker room stealing your stuff.
If that's the case, then welcome.

I'm very sad to write this but I've been going there for a long time and know these situations firsthand, I was personally affected by this mayhem two days ago.

Thanks for disappointing but you should have taken care of your reputation and your visitors!

The first visual impression is great big bright, etc But the facility is busy and crowded at all times
At the gym you always have to wait to use the machines .

Parking is free x only a limited time therefore you have to plan carefully your stay or pay or get a ticket

Attending the gym is not longer and enjoyable and relaxing experience at the YMCA Seton

And is not longer feel a safe environment as people are wearing clothing, gym wear with strong political statements and the facility allows this .

Go up
